Hospice is a special way of caring for people who are terminally ill. It involves a variety of comfort-oriented services to meet the patient’s unique physical, emotional, and spiritual needs and to help family members cope with illness and loss. Services are delivered with the goal of helping patients live the remainder of their lives to the fullest extent possible.

Hospice of Huntington provides a variety of services for patients and their families based on need, including:

  • Holistic end of life care focused on comfort and quality of life
  • Routine visits from the hospice medical team
  • Medication, medical supplies and equipment
  • Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapy as ordered by the patient’s doctor
  • Social worker services to organize the patient’s affairs
  • Short-term inpatient care at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House

We serve families in Cabell, Lincoln, Mason and Wayne counties in West Virginia, as well as Lawrence, Meigs and Gallia counties in Southern Ohio. Click here to view our office locations.

Our services are delivered by a comprehensive and specially trained team of professionals, including:

  • Palliative Physicians
  • Nurses
  • Therapists
  • Certified Nursing Assistants/Aides
  • Medical Social Workers
  • Bereavement Counselors
  • Clergy, if desired
  • Volunteers, if desired

In order to qualify for hospice care, the patient must meet the following conditions:

  • The patient is diagnosed with a terminal illness and given a prognosis of six months or less to live if the disease follows its normal course. The prognosis must be certified by the attending physicians and the hospice physician.
  • The resident chooses comfort/palliative care instead of curative treatments.

Yes, our team specializes in providing hospice care for patients of all ages.

Hospice care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance companies. Hospice of Huntington provides care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay through generous community donations.

The patient, a family member, a friend, a caregiver, medical staff or a doctor can make a referral for hospice care. Once the referral is made, a member of our team will make a visit to meet with the patient and family.

Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House

When a patient’s care needs become too complex to manage at home, they may be admitted to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House (EDJHH). The EDJHH is our 14-bed inpatient care facility that provides compassionate care in a peaceful and lovely environment overlooking the Ohio River.

Patients are admitted to the EDJHH for three primary reasons:

  • Pain management and symptom control
  • Respite care (short-term stays)
  • End of life care
